The second round of the basketball A league started today in Telavi. One of the 3 matches planned in the 6th round was held in Kakheti. In Telavi, Burji hosted Kavkasia, the sole leader of the tournament, and got them suffer the first defeat of the season – 91:76 (Statistics).
Kavkasia coached by Beka Tsivtsivadze won all of the five matches held in the first round of the A League and visited the capital of Kakheti as a leader. Telavi coached by Nika Chavelashvili held the best match of the current season and beat the opponent in such a way that they did not question their own advantage.
Burji won the first period 16:11, and increased the advantage to 13 points for the big break. The situation did not change in the second half either. It is true that the hosts did not have a big advantage as in the first half, however, with the background of the gained leadership, this also turned out to be enough. Finally, Telavi won by 15 points and gained the 3rd victory in the current season.
Ky Mauras led the winners with a triple-double – 14 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Xavier Newson scored 24 points, Unruh Smith had 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Devon Coly became a top-scorer in Kavkasia with 18 points. Vladimer Alavidze had 10 points.
The remaining 2 matches of the 6th round will be held on March 23 at the Olympic Palace: Mega – Zestaponi, Sportuni – Orbi.
