Gtuni Defeated Iverioni after overcoming 17 points deference

Today 2 games of “A” League took place in Olympic palace. Favorite of first game has easily defeated its opponent as it was expected, however second match was quite tensed. Interesting, emotional, game took place between Iverioni and Gtuni (Guram Tavartkelidze University). Team coached by Dimitry Jakobov is quite strong for debutant and has ambition to advance to Super League, however another 3 motivated teams have same desire as well – Orbi, Astrali and their todays opponent Gtuni are fighting for their place in Georgia’s high league as well.

Today mentioned 4 team were playing against each other, Iverioni advanced from the beginning and won the first quarter by 14 points – 32:18. Gaining such huge difference is great achievement however maintaining leadership is quite challenging and can be achieved thanks to well planed game, which was missing is Gori’s todays match. Team coached by Davit Nozadze won second period by 20:14 and cut down difference to 8 points. They increased the pace after big break even more and thank to legionaries and Georgian’s great effort won third quarter by 26:11. Gtuni was taking lead by 7 points already.
Iverioni did not lose its fighting spirit and tried to come back into game and their legionary Aisiah Lewis has significantly contributed to his team. 3 minutes before the final buzzer Gori was winning by 78:77, however missed upcoming 3 attacks. Team of Gtuni used their chances and after Giorgi Dvali’s three-pointer eventually beat opponent by 89:91 and gained important victory.
Vasil Beruashvili with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists was the leader of the winners. Eddie Hunt collected 17 points and 6 rebounds. Kamar Macnight contributed 16 points. Nika Gogokhia had 100 precent shooting efficiency and scored 14 points in total.

In another game of the day, Astrali defeated team from Kutaisi. Even though difference in score is only 7 points, there was no fight and tension in game. Asrali won first quarter by 28:7 and lost all other 3 periods, however head coach, Beka Chikviladze was so sure in victory, that did not even hesitate to use legionary from his roaster.
Next round of A League will take place on January 21st.
