The Georgian Referee Corps was filled with 2 more FIBA referees. A few days ago Mikheil Vartanov and Kirile Tvauri, who successfully passed both practical and theoretical exams, were officially granted the license of International Basketball Federation.
Mikhail Vartanov was approaching this license for a long time. He became a FIBA referee in 3×3 basketball two years ago, and attended seminars in Bosnia last year after which he successfully passed practical exams. As for Kirile Tvauri, he was in Bosnia this month and successfully did similar tests. The last step towards becoming the FIBA referee was the basketball rules tests that Tvauri and Vartanov passed along with Georgian FIBA referees – Maka Kupatadze and David Berekashvili.
Significant contribution to the training of Tvauri and Vartanov have been made by Serbian specialist – Dragan Neskovic and FIBA’s only Georgian commissioner – Merab Ratishvili.
Neskovic works as a referee instructor at the Georgian Basketball Federation. the Federation has invited a well-known and authoritative FIBA arbitrator to Georgia to fill the referee corps and qualify the existing contingent. With his help, many young people have begun officiating and FIBA has been paying more attention to the current arbitrators through his connections. A striking example of this is the FIBA licenses that Tvauri and Vartanov received.
From now on Georgia will have 4 FIBA license referees, as well as 1 commissioner and technical delegate. Maka Kupatadze and David Berekashvili have been licensed by FIBA for years. Mikheil Vartanov and Kirile Tvauri joined them now. As for FIBA’s only commissioner and technical delegate, he is Merab Ratishvili, head of FIBA Relations Department at the Basketball Federation.
