The number and merit of Georgian referees on the international arena is growing. A few days ago, another woman, Maka Shalamberidze, received the FIBA license, and Mikheil Vartanov and Kirile Tvauri were promoted to the hierarchy of FIBA referees.
Until now, Georgia had the only woman licensed by FIBA – Maka Kupatadze. From now on, he will be joined by Maka Shalamberidze, who received a FIBA license at the age of 27 and from now on will serve in international matches together with the Super League and domestic championships.
At the same time, FIBA granted the so-called black license to Mikheil Vartanov and Kirile Tvauri. Both have been licensed by the International Basketball Federation for more than a year, although they have previously had a limited coverage of the tournament. After receiving the black license, Vartanov and Tvauri can serve the matches of any tournament organized by FIBA.
FIBA national team and club tournaments will be resumed in the fall and Georgian referees with international licenses will be actively involved. We would like to remind you that together with Vartanov, Tvauri and Shalamberidze, Georgia has 2 more licensed FIBA referees – Maka Kupatadze and Davit Berekashvili. Accordingly, the number of licensed referees in our country is 5.
