The participants of the regional basketball development program visited Gori and Akhaltsikhe

For the promotion and development of basketball in the regions, the Georgian Basketball Federation made another field trip. The visit to Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti took place within the framework of the program that the Regional Development Department of the Federation has been implementing together with the FIBA ​​Youth Development Fund for the last few years. The program envisages supplying regional basketball federations with basketball inventory, from which attributes will be distributed to basketball schools in each region as needed.

In the last 4 months, within the framework of the program, the above-mentioned department was in Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Adjara, Shida Kartli, Imereti, Guria, Samegrelo, Racha-Lechkhumi and Svaneti. Last week another trip was made to Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti. Coaches of basketball schools of Shida Kartli region gathered in the hall of Gori University. The vice-president of the Georgian National Basketball Federation, Nikoloz Tskitishvili, the head of the regional development department, Shalva Oniani, and the members of the department handed over inventory to the local basketball federation –   basketballs, basketball shields, playing uniforms. Boards, whistles and various sports accessories needed for professional activities were distributed to the coaches. The mentioned attributes were distributed to the basketball schools of Gori, Khashuri and Kaspi.

From Gori, the representatives of the Georgian National Basketball Federation travelled to Samtskhe-Javakheti, where they visited Akhaltsikhe sports school. The Vice President of the Federation and the members of the Regional Development Department were met by the Mayor of Akhaltsikhe, the Chairman of the City Council and representatives of the local self-government. The basketball hall of Akhaltsikhe is still under reconstruction and as the government representatives said, its rehabilitation will be completed soon, which will revive the already active Akhaltsikhe from the basketball point of view.

Under the leadership of local coach Giorgi Beroshvili, Akhaltsikhe basketball school has several age groups, some of which compete in the Georgian championship. Coaches from Borjomi arrived in Akhaltsikhe, who also received basketball equipment for boys’ and girls’ teams in their city. 

The development program of regional basketball federations continues actively and next visits are planned to Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions, where the participants of the program were last time 4 months ago.
