The 24th tour of the current Super League came out to be the most tense and unexpected. After Kutaisi and Rustavi, the third leader of the championship lost with Delta.
The victory of Marneuli is twice joyful for Marneuli players, because Levan Patsatsia, one of the leaders of Delta, was expelled from the court during the second period, he protested the decision of the referees and finally got a disqualification. For this moment, Dinamo was already winning and it shouldn’t have been difficult for them to defeat the outsider, especially when Delta didn’t have one of the leaders. However, everything happened on the opposite side. Dinamo won the second period and they had 8-points advantage for the big break – 46:38, but Marneuli players started to play strategically better game in the third period.
Nicholas Neal was the most effective in the match, he led the winners with 27 points, the whole team was beside him. Saba Lobjanidze scored 14 points, Deondre Ray had 12 points. Lavell Boyd accumulated the most points in Dinamo, he scored 23 points. Kiel Turpin had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Ilia Londaridze had double-double – 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The matches of the next round of the Super League will be held on March 23 in Kutaisi, on march 24 in Tbilisi and on March 25 in Batumi.
Temur kankia – Marneuli head coach:
“We were left without a leading player, but the emotional background gave us strength and opportunity to play. The guys fought to the end and they managed to do everything, that we planned on the trainings. The result was such a joyous victory, and I congratulate each of the Delta fans.”
Irakli Khoshtaria – Dinamo head coach:
“I would like to congratulate Marneuli at first. There are still many problems in the team, both in defense and offense. We are working to fix them and I hope that we will be able to play in the proper form soon.”
