The third round of the Superleague, which started yesterday in Batumi and Kutaisi, continues in Tbilisi today. The first of the 3 matches scheduled for today at the Olympic Palace is already over. Basketball club Olimpi gained its first victory in the current Superleague. the team trained by Dimitri Jakobov, defeated Tskhum-Apkhazeti 91:82.
Olimpi lost both matches of the previous 2 rounds, they were mostly losing today as well. After winning the first period 21:17, Olimpi lost the second quarter 18:24 and were 2-points behind for the big break. The third quarter was more or less equal, however, Tskhum-Apkhazeti managed to increase the difference to 4 points. In the final period Zviad Antadze’s team increased its pace and accuracy, advanced by 10 points and got Olimpi in a quite difficult situation.
Olimpi tied the game very soon though. Effectiveness of American legionnaires – Kory Holden and Akiean Frederick was followed by Rezo Rogava’s 2 accurate 3-pointers. 5 minutes before the end, Olimpi was already able to lead. At the expense of fast game and good defensive tactics, Olimpi increased their advantage to 8 points – 71:63. Tskhum-Apkhazeti couldn’t change anything in the remaining time and lost the game eventually.
Kory Holden led the winners with 17 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds. Akiean Frederick contributed 22 points and 7 rebounds. Rezo Rogava scored 14 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Deonta Franklin was the most effective with 20 points and 6 assists in Tskhumi. Justin Bogle had 15 points and Kwan Waller scored 14.
