6th round of the Superleague is over. In a decisive match Cactus hosted Olimpi at Tbilisi Olympic Palace and lost in a tense battle – 70:74. Olimpi, trained by Dimitri Jakobov and Davit Rogava, started current season with 2 losses, but won 3 matches in a row then and reached the top of the standings.
It’s noteworthy that Olimpi gained victory in a tense match, which was not expected at all if we consider the results of the first half. Jakobov’s team started convincingly, Olimpi players were very successful in almost every component, accordingly, they won the first period 30:18 and advanced by 15 points in the second one – 38:23.
Cactus showed its capabilities once more. Archil Jghenti’s team started to reduce the difference at the expense of good defense and fast attacks. They reduced the difference to 7 points before the big break and even increased the preasure from the third quarter.
The score was equalized and the match turned to a very tense battle. That’s how it went to the last minute, when Cactus missed its offense and Revaz Rogava from Olimpi scored both free-throws, Mikheil Chochua lost the ball finally and the fate of the match was decided here. Olimpi gained 5-points advantage and was harder to reach. Eventually, Jakobov’s team won 74:70 and placed on the 4th place in the standings.
Kakha Jintcharadze led the winners with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Akiean Frederik was a top scorer with 23 points. Revaz Rogava contributed 18 points. Mikheil Chochua was the most effective with 18 points in Cactus, Brian Williams scored 17 points.
7th round matches of the Superleague will be held on November 22, 23 and 24 in Kutaisi, Tbilisi and Rustavi.
