The 3rd round of the Super League started in the regions today. 2 meetings were held in Batumi and Kutaisi at the same time, the remaining 3 matches of the tour will be held on November 1 at the Tbilisi Olympic Palace.
As for today’s matches, the hosts easily won in both of them. During the game both guests had good moments and therefore a chance to succeed, Eventually, however, the hosts managed so that convincing differences were observed in both matches.
In Imeretian pair two undefeated teams – Kutaisi and TSU met each other, while Batumi and Mgzavrebi, who had had no victories before, played against each other. Kutaisi started the match with such a result that they gained an important leadership in the blink of an eye – 26:6. TSU’s coach took a minute-breaks, but he wasn’t able to change the situation instantly. The university team became more active at the end of the second period and reduced the difference to 12 points for the big break.
The situation became even more tense in the third period, in the 3rd minute of which Tbilisi got closer to the hosts with 6 points – 46:52. It seemed as if the game had been leveled and a tense battle was about to take place, but the hosts regained a 20-point lead thanks to the team play in the third period and decided the fate of the match then. In the final quarter, the advantage of Kutaisi exceeded 20 points and the final minutes of the match became a formality. Eventually, they won 97:69 (Statistics) and Kutaisi is the sole leader of the Super League with 3 out of 3 victories. 5 of the winners exceeded the 10-point mark, Akaki Dvalishvili had a double-double 11 points and 11 rebounds. De Juan Wright became a top scorer with 18 points. Brandon Sly was the most effective with 16 points in TSU, Saba Lobjanidze had 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
Almost a similar scenario was played in Batumi. The hosts convincingly won the first and second periods and advanced 48:33 for the big break, however, in the third period, Mgzavrebi managed to advance – 53:50. In other words, at some point the guests won over Batumi 20:2. This happened in the middle of the third period, after which the hosts took the initiative and ended the meeting in such a way that they did not give a chance to Mgzavrebi any more.
6 minutes before the end of the match, the leadership of the hosts reached 20 points and everything was decided here. Eventually, Batumians won 93:81 (სტატისტიკა), the great contribution of which was made by Beqa Beqauri – 24 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists. Levan Babilodze and Petar Aratinovic scored 17-17 points each. Nikola Vujovic had 13 points and 13 rebounds. Soso Gognadze led Mgzavrebi with 17 points and 17 rebounds, Otar Pertaia scored 20 points.
