The leaders’ match was held in the the 26th round of the Super League. Kutaisi and Dinamo – the teams of the first and the second places in the standings played against each other. Kutaisi hosted the match and gained a very important victory. It was a big step to win a regular championship.
Kutaisi lost with Batumi in the previous round and the difference with Dinamo was reduced to minimum. Tbilisians were able to catch up with Kutaisi with the lost points, but the team trained by Irakli Khoshtaria did not use this chance. Kote Tugushi’s team played steadily and defeated the current champion for the fourth time in the current season.
The third period came to be decisive, which was won by Kutaisi 24:14. They advanced with 8 points before the final period. The hosts were leading until the end of the game and finally won 82:71. Giorgi Barbaqadze led the winners with 25 points. Beqa Beqauri scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Jonathan Lee had a double-double – 10 points, 12 assists. Akaki Dvalishvili scored 9 points and 11 rebounds. Nodar Gogodze was the most effective with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Giorgi Sharabidze scored 17 points and 9 rebounds.
As you know, the matches scheduled for March 31 were postponed, the remaining 1 match will be held on April 2 in Rustavi, where Batumi will play.
