The new program of the Basketball Federation: an online platform for all coaches

With the initiative of the Georgian Basketball National Federation and the support of the Coaches’ Union, a new program has been launched, which aims to maintain and support the activities of coaches in the face of restrictions caused by Coronavirus. The program includes online courses, seminars and a variety of materials that will be designed for both beginners and experienced coaches.

The main instructor of the program is Milos Gligorijevic, the head coach of the Georgian U-20 team, the assistant of Ilias Zouros in the national team and the coordinator of the Georgian youth teams. The program will be implemented with the technical assistance of the Georgian Coaches’ Union, whose president, Davit Ustiashvili, took part in an online conference last night. The conference was attended by about 40 coaches of  national youth teams, Super League, A League, youth championship teams and various programs of the  Basketball National Federation.

Milos Gligorijevic: “Now that the Coronavirus is rampant in the world and the only effective way to fight it is staying home, the Georgian Basketball Federation has decided to implement a new program to keep coaches active, allowing them to deepen their basketball and professional knowledge without leaving home. An online platform has been created in which all coaches working in Georgia and registered in the Coaches’ Union will be united. There are about 300 of them and therefore there are both beginners and experienced coaches. Accordingly, video and text materials of all coaching levels will be placed on the platform. In addition to what I personally have, there are Georgian coaches who have their own theoretical materials on our professional activities. We plan to start on Monday and place the materials on the platform two or three times a week.”

The program is supported by the coach of the Georgian national team Ilias Zouros and the representatives of his coaching staff. Along with the training videos and text material, it is also planned to post clips depicting the physical training, the authors of which will be the suitable coaches of the national team.

Davit Rogava, coach of Olimpi: “First of all, I would like to thank the federation and the Coaches’ Union for this good initiative. Due to the situation in the world, all kinds of sports or other activities are temporarily suspended and projects like this will help coaches to share their experience and knowledge with each other. This group includes a lot of experienced and educated coaches and their visions or knowledge are always interesting to me as a young specialist.”
