Girls’ basketball teams in Akhmeta received equipment through the Federation’s program

After the New Year break, the Regional Department of the Basketball Federation has resumed its activities. The regional basketball development program has been implemented for the fourth year, within the framework of which all regions of Georgia have already received the necessary equipment several times.

At the end of last year, the program was relaunched with new momentum, as girls were also included. The Regional Department utilized a targeted tranche from the relevant FIBA fund. Her World, Her Rules is a program created by FIBA to develop girls’ basketball, and alongside the boys’ program, it is being implemented by the relevant departments of the Georgian Basketball Federation.

Over the past month, the heads of the Federation’s Women’s Basketball and Regional Departments—Kakha Shengelia and Shalva Oniani—have already visited their third region, delivering all the necessary basketball equipment for girls’ teams. Imereti, Samegrelo, Adjara, and now Kakheti as well—on January 17, representatives of the regional basketball development program visited Akhmeta, which is one of the country’s strong centers for girls’ basketball. Although fewer girls train in Akhmeta compared to Imereti or Samegrelo, Akhmeta has always had representatives in Georgia’s youth national teams, underscoring the region’s importance in women’s basketball.

Shooting training devices, balls, uniforms, coaching boards, whistles, and various types of equipment were personally delivered by the Federation’s representatives to the Matani Sports School. As agreed with local officials, backboards and a scoreboard will also be allocated to the Zviad Zviadauri Sports Hall in Akhmeta, where basketball games can easily be held alongside judo activities.

The next trip within the regional basketball development program will be historic: on January 21, a truck loaded with basketball equipment will arrive in the village of Ditsi, in the Gori municipality, where a basketball club will be opened just a few hundred meters from the occupation line.
