A basketball academy has opened at the public school in the village of Ditsi, Gori Municipality. This is the basketball section located closest to the occupation line, established on the basis of a public school and fully equipped with inventory and attributes provided through a special program of the Georgian National Basketball Federation.
The initiator of the basketball school in Ditsi was local activist and organizer of numerous programs and events, Giorgi Samkharadze. He took advantage of the support offered by the Basketball Federation’s “Basketball Development” program and founded a basketball club in the sports hall of the Ditsi village school, just 400 meters from the occupation line.
At the initial stage, the school’s physical education teachers will use the provided equipment and train interested children in basketball. In the near future, the Federation plans to retrain the teachers of the Ditsi school in the relevant field and to conduct basketball seminars and demonstration training sessions, which will help ensure that the new academy operates at a satisfactory level for beginners.
A ceremonial opening of the academy was held at the Ditsi public school, which was also attended by representatives of the European Union Monitoring Mission stationed in the area along the occupation line. Basketball equipment was delivered to the school two weeks earlier—the donated backboards were installed, locker rooms were set up, and uniforms and balls were distributed to the children. On January 21, the entire school gathered in the sports hall, where, together with visiting representatives of the Basketball Federation, the basketball academy was officially opened.
We would like to remind you that within the framework of the basketball development program, the Federation’s Regional Department delivers equipment throughout Georgia, and this process is expanding both in intensity and geographic scope. The opening of basketball academies in villages near the occupation line will continue in the future—under the Federation’s program, any school that expresses readiness for basketball activities will receive the necessary equipment and attributes.
