Another international basketball tournament has started in the capital of Georgia today. As you are aware, last month Tbilisi hosted the FIBA Under-20 European Challenger, during which the teams of the leading European basketball countries visited our city. This time the guests are not as famous as France, Serbia and Germany, however, hosting the women’s European Challenger is really important for our basketball community.
Promoting women’s basketball is one of the priorities of the Georgian National Basketball Federation and that is why the FIBA International Tournament is being held in Tbilisi. It is true that our team is not strong for now, but international activity, correct and dedicated work with youngsters give hope for the future.
Malta, North Macedonia, Albania and Armenia are participating in the Tbilisi European Challenger together with Georgia. In the first round, the Macedonians were resting, while in the first match, Albania did not leave Armenia a chance. Our neighbors lost 37:61 (Statistics) with Albania. As for the Georgians, our team coached by Nino Kipshidze and Zviad Didbaridze gave up their debut match with Malta – 28:71 (Statistics).
On the second day of the tournament, on August 10, 2 matches will be held at Tbilisi Sports Palace. North Macedonia will face Malta at 16:00, and Georgia will meet Albania at 19:00.
