Alongside various basketball initiatives, the Georgian Basketball Federation continues its cooperation with FIBA in the area of regional infrastructure development. A special program, developed by the Georgian Basketball Federation, aims to equip every basketball center in the country with the necessary inventory and full support. The program is funded by the FIBA Youth Development Fund. Using the funds allocated by the international basketball organization, the Federation purchases specific equipment abroad that is needed by Georgia’s regional basketball centers.

This program has been running for three years, and during this time, its participants — Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Vice President of the Georgian Basketball Federation, Shalva Oniani, Head of the Regional Development Department, and their colleagues — have repeatedly delivered various types of basketball equipment to all regions of Georgia.

After supplying the regions with uniforms, balls, and many other types of basketball inventory, the project’s organizers moved on to larger-scale equipment and have been providing modern scoreboards to sports halls across Georgian cities according to their needs.

During the visits carried out by the Regional Development Department at the end of May, Euro-standard scoreboards were delivered to the gyms of Kutaisi (Level Up School), Kharagauli, Tskaltubo, and Zugdidi. On June 4, this important basketball equipment was also received by the Telavi Sports Palace and the Lagodekhi Sports Hall.

In Telavi, the Federation’s Vice President and Regional Department representatives were welcomed by the city’s Deputy Mayor, Fikria Qushitashvili, who expressed great interest in basketball and readiness to work toward the development of the sport. In Lagodekhi, the Federation’s representatives were met by the Chairman of the City Council, Karlo Jamburia — a former basketball player and a devoted supporter of the game. It was decided that the Lagodekhi Sports Hall will undergo renovation, and there are also plans to build a new, modern sports hall in the city.

As part of the Basketball Development Program in the Regions, the Federation’s representatives will visit Racha’s basketball centersAmbrolauri and Oni — in June, where, as in other cities, they will deliver modern scoreboards as gifts.
