Batumi coached by Buba Berishvili gained the 3rd victory in a row in the Super League. Adjara team competed against Tskhum-Apkhazeti at the Tbilisi Olympic Palace and defeated it 88:83 (Statistics). For its part, this was the 4th loss in a row for Tskhumi and the team coached by Irakli Dzidziguri is a lot behind the leaders now.
Batumi won thanks to the dedication and team play. In the first period, the Adjara team was 5-7 points behind and this continued until the end of the second quarter, before Berishvili’s team sorted out the game. Batumi’s effective defense resulted in that Tskhumi started to miss the balls frequently, which the guests took advantage of and after equalizing the score before the big break, they even advanced at the last seconds – 45:43 for the big break.
The successful game of Batumi was resumed from the third period. Adjara players were getting points by points both from the perimeter and with quick breakthroughs and undercover games and after winning the third period 23:16, Batumi advanced 68:59 before the decisive quarter. Tense battle took place in the final period. Tskhum-Apkhazeti players were close to turning the game around several times, however, Batumi didn’t let them to – they scored many important points and retained the victory in a tense fight. Otar pertaia’s three-pointer scored in the last minutes is noteworthy as well as his decisive free-throws, which cut all chances to Tskum-Apkhazeti.
Dennis Marvin led the winners with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Beqa Beqauri had 19 points and 10 rebounds, but he threw penalties with unusually poor percentage: 2 out of 10. Saba Lobjanidze collected 16 points. Alexander Peacock was the most effective in Tskhum-Apkhazeti with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Tyler Green had 19 points.
