The last game of Saturday was quite interesting. 2 leading teams of Super League – Olimpi and Gurjaani Delta faced each other. It is true that none of participant teams could advance to the semifinals of Dudu Dadiani Memorial Tournament, however both of them are favorites of ongoing season.
Gurjaani lost game against TSU in previous tour, while because of championship schedule Olimpi was resting, consequesntly game had huge importance for both of the teams. Team coached by Davit Rogava wished to start Super League season with victory and create positive environment, while Delta had to prove that they lost game against TSU by chance. By defeating Olimpi they would fully recover from previous game and raise their reputation and attitude. Irakli Dzidziguri’s team defeated ambitious opponent by 17 points – 79:62 (Statistics).
3rd quarter of the game had decisive character. After winning period by 22:17, Delta raised its advantage to 7 points. Even though same quality performance was necessary in last quarter as well, thanks to players dedication, question regarding Delta’s victory was never raised again. Zura Machaladze, Levan Maskhulia, Vakhtang Kadaria, Otar Pkhakadze and of course legionaries Evy Tummer and Ricardo Linch were fighting till the last seconds. Delta’s victory was mostly caused by players fight and sacrifice and not tactical advantage of the team. Good example of their dedication is index of steals -11 to 3 in favor of Delta.
Together with Otar Pkhakadze Evy Tummer has best result. American scored 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists, Pkhakadze collected 13 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Other 2 Delta players – Levan Maskhulia and Ricardo Linch contributed per 13 points. As for Olimpi, Linton Eslais with 17 points should be distinguished, Giorgi Turdziladze collected 15 points and 7 rebounds.
Other 2 games of second tour will be hold in Olympic Palace, on October 30th.
