Mgzavrebi beats Olimpi and takes 2nd place in the regular championship

Another match of 17th tour of the Superleague between Olimpi and Mgzavrebi was quite principal. The victory will lead Mgzavrebi to the second place in the standings, which has principal importance in playoffs: on the one hand, they would meet relatively week team and on the other hand, they would have court advantage in case if they meet region team both in quarterfinals and semifinals. Berishvili’s team achieved their goal: they defeated Olimpi 84:72 and took the second place.

It’s noteworthy that Mgzavrebi gained the victory on the expense of huge effort. The team trained by Berishvili was losing by 8 points – 43:51 in the third period. However, thanks to good defense and fast attacks Mgzavrebi managed to equalize the score first (51:51) and than reach the leadership. They won the third period 26:11 and advanced 65:58 before the final quarter.

The situation didn’t change in the last period. Mgzavrebi remained their leadership and gained 12th victory in the 17th tour. Mgzavrebi will stay on the second place despite any result in the remaining matches, which is quite a solid accomplishment for this team. Kakha Jintcharadze, Prince Williams and Adrian Bowie led the winners with 19-19 points. Bowie had triple-doubles in the previous 2 matches (16th tour of the Superleague and Georgian Cup), he lacked 1 assist to this distinct result: 19 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists. Mark Ogden was the most effective with 22 points and 15 rebounds in Olimpi.
