In the last match of the first circle Mega defeated Tskhum-Apkhazeti

The first circle of the Super League, during which 55 matches were played, ended today. The 11 teams of the Super League have met each other once, i.e. half of the regular season is over. Before the second circle starts, the teams will have to hold the Georgian Cup and the Mikheil Qorqia-Zurab Sakandelidze Memorial according to the season calendar.

The first circle ended with the match between Tskhum-Apkhazeti and Mega. Coach Nikoloz Cherkezishvili was leading the Super League debutant. He took over the team 2 rounds ago and celebrated his debut by defeating Cactus, after which, he beat quite ambitious Tskhum-Apkhazeti today. It is symbolic that Cherkezishvili was coaching Tskhum-Apkhazeti last year and today’s victory would also be of principal importance for an experienced coach.

However, in the second period, Tskhumi was winning by 18 points (33:15) and Mega looked doomed, but Cherkezishvili’s planned tactical changes paid off and the difference in the score began to decrease. Before the big break, Mega players reduced the gap to 6 points and delivered the main blow to the opponent in the third period. Cherkezishvili’s team started storming from the second minute of the third quarter and reached 51:44 lead with a 14:0 escape. Mega’s American legionnaire Demonte Flannigan scored 10 points in this period of time, Tyrell Corbin also helped him and Cherkezishvili’s team won this period 23:8.

In the final period, Mega did not slow down and increased its lead to 14 points, which meant victory. Tskhumi attacked the opponent with all their strength in the last minutes and Cherkezishvili was a little nervous, but Mega still reached the victory calmly – 74:68 (Statistics) and along with the first circle, closed the year of 2021 on a pleasant note. With 4 wins and 6 losses, the outsider team of the Super League is on the 7th place of the standings and is ahead of Tskhum-Akhazeti and Titebi in terms of ball ratio, while it is 2 and 3 points ahead of Cactus and Dinamo, respectively.

Tyrell Corbin made a 21-point contribution in today’s victory. Flannigan scored 17 points. Deng Acuoth, who had his second match in Mega, collected 17 rebounds and 7 points. Levan Maskhulia was the most effective in Tskhum-Apkhazeti with 15 points. Tyler Green had 13 points.
