The 2nd round of the Super League is over. As you are aware, due to the odd number of teams in the Super League, 1 team rests in each round. Additionally, Kutaisi and Rustavi also had to rest in the first round, because they played a Super Cup match on the opening day of the Super League. Consequently, the teams in the standings will not have an equal number of games until the first round and then the regular season are over. So, we will still review the Super League matches according to rounds and today, the 2 matches held at the Olympic Palace were the final matches of the 2nd round.
After TSU defeated Olimpi, the teams of Cactus and Tskhum-Apkhazeti came out on the court. Cactus coached by Archil Zhghenti had lost the first round match, while this was the first match for Tskhumi, because according to the calendar, Irakli Dzidziguri’s team was resting. Dzidziguri’s debut as the head coach turned out to be successful. He worked as an assistant in the team last season, but as a result of progressive moves he earned the post of head coach.
Cactus was not a weak opponent at all. 2 solid guards joined Zhghenti’s team after the previous round – Rezo Rogava returned to his homeland after a season in the Romanian Premier League, having spent his last seasons in the Super League at Olimpi. Along with him, Cactus added the successful American legionnaire Jordan Forbes.
The match went at a fast pace and ended with the victory of Tskhum-Apkhazeti – 84:77 (Statistics). Dzidziguri’s team won the first period 25:17 and maintained the lead throughout the game. Cactus was trying to reduce the difference, which did not work out well and the meeting ended in such a way that the situation on the court did not become tense. When Rogava and Forbes adapt better to the team, we should expect good results from Cactus. Tskhum-Apkhazeti, on the other hand, can be considered as one of the favorites of the Super League.
The next match of the Super League will be held on October 27, in Batumi, between the local team and Rustavi.
