Zac Seljaas led Vera in the match against Olimpi

The successful series of the basketball club Vera has increased to 5 matches. Davit Gasitashvili’s team defeated Olimpi, a direct competitor and one of the favorites of the Super League. Olimpi have had one loss so far which they suffered at the start of the championship, against TSU, in the absence of 3 leading players. The Olympians, who have the most members of the Georgian national team in the Super League, lost to the team, the best player of which they recruited last season (Givi Baqradze).

Vera’s success is conditioned by their balanced lineup. Gasitashvili and his assistants have composed the team in such a way that they have 2-2 good players in all positions who are doing their job. In all fields – front or back line, three-second zone or long shots, fast breaks or forced defense, Vera players are moderately good. They do not have a distinctly weak link, in which they will be oppressed by the opponent and this is exactly the reason why they win exceptionally many games.

After an equal first half, Vera organized a terrible 3rd period for the opponent, which they won 25:9, and the fate of the game was almost decided. However, the Olympians started to reduce 16 points and the difference was minimal at the last minute (82:83) thanks to Givi Baqradze’s 2 three-pointers. Yet stability brought victory to Vera.

In the end, Vera won 85:82 (Statistics) and moved to the 2nd place in the Super League standings. Zac Seljaas led the winners with 31 points and 15 rebounds. Thatch Unruh and Darrell Brown had 12-12 points each. Boris Tortladze and Vakhtang Qadaria had 10-10 points. Kakha Jintcharadze was the most effective in Olimpi with 30 points. Luka Kalatozishvili collected 19 points and 10 rebounds.
