The 9th round of the Super League started in Batumi on Thursday. Adjara club coached by Buba Berishvili defeated Titebi, which gained loud victories in the previous rounds – 96:83 (Statistics). Batumi defeated the opponent in such a way that they did not give them a miserable chance to succeed.
However, Titebi arrived in Adjara to win and the team coached by Beso Lezhava really had a reason for that. In the last two rounds, they won in Rustavi first and then beat an undefeated leader of the Superleague – Kutaisi.
With the background of these results, a rather tense battle was expected in Batumi, which did not take place. It is difficult to say whether the enthusiastic support of the fans was the reason for this, but the fact is: The sports school arena on Pirosmani Street was filled with spectators and the players of Batumi had the greatest support during the whole game. The players thanked Batumi fans by easily defeating a strong opponent. The fans weren’t even nervous throughout the match.
The hosts won the first period 28:15, the second period 21:19 and when they added 3 more points to their leadership in the third one, the fate of the match was already decided before the final quarter – Batumi was a way ahead 77:59 and Titebi didn’t look like a team capable of reducing 18 points. Eventually, Tbilisi team reduced the difference, but only to 13 points.
The victory of the hosts was the result of teamwork. Batumi didn’t have a distinguished leader. Beka Bekauri recorded the highest result of total effectiveness (21) with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Saba Lobjanidze scored 14 points-6 rebounds-6assists. Dennis Mavin had 16 points and 7 rebounds. Soso Gognadze collected 13 points and 10 rebounds. Javion Ogunyemi was the most effective in Titebi with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Levan Babilodze scored 14 points.
This was Batumis 4th victory in a row in the Superleague and Berishvili’s team advanced to the 4th place in the standings after this successful series.
2 matches of the 9th round of the Super League will be held on December 24 in Rustavi and Tbilisi.
