Basketball team Rustavi is in the Super League finals. Qvemo Qartli team coached by Anatoli Boisa will fight for the main basketball title of Georgia. Its opponent will be revealed in 2 days, on May 19, after the decisive semifinal match between Tskhum-Apkhazeti and Dinamo.
Rustavi, which is a five-time champion of Georgia, last reached the final 11 years ago. In the 2009-2010 season, Qvemo Qartli defeated TSU in the final, after which they were not given a chance to win the title. Rustavi managed to reach the final after the brilliantly held regular season of this year and the first rounds of the playoffs. Qvemo Qartli did not taste loss in either the quarterfinal or the semifinal series – they won against TSU and now Cactus with the score of 2:0.
Today, the second semifinal match held at the Tbilisi Olympic Palace ended with a 13-point, but deserved victory of Rustavi – 91:78 (Statistics). Cactus, coached by Archil Zhghenti, did their best, but like the first match, they did not have a real chance of winning. This was the merit of the mobilized and accurate game of Rustavi. The American legionnaires of high mastery of Qvemo Qartli are by far the most dangerous and unstoppable in the Super League and the result is obvious – Rustavi won the ticket to the final without any additional complications.
Whenever Cactus had a successful period, Rustavi’s response was accurate long-range shots, or quick breakthroughs. The first half turned out to be more or less equal, during which Cactus also advanced several times. After the first half, Rustavi was winning by 3 points, and from the third period, they made a change in the game, in which a young Zura Vashakidze has a solid share along with the legionaries of the team. Gegi Bakradze also looked solid, who was effective both in defense and attack, and after winning the third period 26:18, Boisa’s team advanced by 11 points.
The situation did not changed in the final period. Rustavi managed to gain the victory at the expense of stable defense and fast attacks and reached the final. Gegi Baqradze led the winners with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. Mike Davis became a top scorer with 17 points. Maliek White had 14 points, 8 rebound and 7 assists. Samajae Haynes-Jones was the most effective in Cactus with 29 points. Sandro Sanadze scored 18 points.
