Sortition Ceremony revealed Georgia's rivals on Eurobasket 2021 Qualifiers

Georgia’s rivals on Eurobasket 2021 Qualifiers are known. Our country was drawn into Group E with Finland and Serbia. As for the third rival, it will be revealed on August 21, after pre-qualifying stage ends between Portugal, Switzerland and Iceland.

EuroBasket 2021 matches will be held in three windows set by FIBA: February 17-25, 2020; November 23 – December 1 2020; and February 15-23, 2021. Each team will play two matches during each window. Games will be held away and home.

It should be noted that, as one of the hosts of EuroBasket 2021 Georgia (as well as Czech Republic, Germany and Italy) will compete in qualifying tournament without competition conditions. So, Georgia and 2 other best teams from Group E will go to the second stage. 

FIBA made a decision for the hosts to participate in qualifiers to make sure that Georgia, Italy, Germany and Czech Republic would be actively involved in the matches on the continent and its various activities.

Due to competition format, 3 best teams from 8 groups will gain 24 tickets for final phase. It’s noteworthy that Vladimer Boisa, Vice-President of Georgian Basketball National Federation took part in sortition ceremony.
