Today, the meeting of the Board of the Georgian Basketball National Federation was held, which decided to cancel the basketball Super League and all current championships. Accordingly, all current championships and basketball events during the 2019-2020 season, which were suspended from the beginning of March due to the Coronavirus pandemic, have been canceled.
The Basketball Federation decided to cancel the championships after the issue of funding basketball clubs was resolved positively. All budget debts that belonged to the teams of the Super League and “A” League this season are covered. The federation acted on the principle that basketball players and members of the basketball world would endure the difficult economic situation created by the epidemic without loss.
The National Basketball Federation will continue to work with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports to assess the current situation and develop the necessary measures for the development of basketball in the future, so that on the next board meeting scheduled for July, its members will have a clear picture of the start dates for next season’s championships.
