The presentation of the club Iverion-Gori was held in the new sports palace of Gori

On September 24, an important event was observed in the sports, or more precisely in the basketball life of Shida Qartli. The foundation was laid for the basketball club Iverion-Gori, the presentation of which was held at the newly built Sports Palace in Gori.

Hence, in connection with this fact, many guests gathered at the Sports Palace. Shida Qartli Governor, Gori Mayor, heads of Georgian national and local basketball federations, veteran basketball players and Gori fans came to attend the first friendly match of Iverion-Gori.

It should be noted that basketball lights have just been installed in the new sports palace in Gori, all the necessary equipment has been installed – dashboard, LED monitor, 24 second clock. National Basketball Federation, which provided the necessary equipment and attributes to the people of Gori, helped the local Basketball Federation together with the local self-governance in equipping the new Sports Palace. 

Additional various equipment – shields, balls, sports equipment – was presented to the Shida Qartli Basketball Federation within the framework of the regional basketball development program. We would like to remind you that the Georgian National Basketball Federation implements this project within the framework of the FIBA International Youth Development Program.

Gori Club was presented at the big break of the friendly match between Iverion-Gori and Tbilisi Martve. The Governor of Shida Qartli – Valerian Mchedlidze, the Mayor of Gori Municipality – Konstantine Tavzarashvili and the President of the Georgian National Basketball Federation Paata Guraspauli delivered speeches at the presentation. The speakers welcomed the establishment of a professional basketball club in Gori, which is an important factor for the development of basketball in the entire Shida Qartli region. Especially when a solid basketball center appeared in Gori in the form of a new sports palace, which includes 2 full-fledged arenas. Famous veteran basketball players – world champion Nikoloz Derugin, Nodar Qorqia and Givi Bitchiashvili also attended the presentation of the club.

Iverion-Gori’s immediate plan is to participate in the A League qualification tournament in the new season, however, the main goal of the club is the active functioning of the children’s sections and in this way the development and popularization of basketball in the region. Basketball groups are already training at the Gori Sports Palace, which will significantly expand their activities after receiving the necessary basketball equipment from the National Federation.

The president of Iverion-Gori, Ilia Jolbordi, is a local businessman who is a former basketball player and wants to revive basketball in Gori and the entire Shida Kartli region. In this, he has the full support of the local government, as well as the national and Shida Qartli basketball federations. At the presentation of Iverion-Gori, the President of the National Basketball Federation – Paata Guraspauli presented a special certificate to Ilia Jolbordi as a thank you for his contribution to the development of basketball in the region
