The gathering of the Georgian national team starts on July 26 in Tbilisi. The head coach, Ilias Zouros, will gather the Super League players and the young candidates for the national team with the Legionnaires and will use the period, which is released in the FIBA calendar due to the Olympics, to prepare the national team, to discover new faces. Ilias Zouros has been in Tbilisi for several days and attended the U20 Challenger matches at the Sports Palace. On the last day of the tournament, we asked the head coach of the national team for a statement:
“First and foremost, I would like to mention that I am glad to be here again and to have the opportunity to attend the games of our U20 team. Unfortunately, our team has problems in terms of composition. Several players couldn’t join the team, several had health problems during the course of the tournament, and were unable to play in all matches. On the other hand, generally I am satisfied with the boys’ diligence. In a short time they managed to form a well-bonded team. It is gratifying that I saw several basketball players who interested me and they have a chance to be with us in the future, to get on the national team. “We will pay attention to them, observe them and I must say that each of them has to work hard and train in their own club in order to earn a place in the national team in the future.”
