The Georgian national team has a new American naturalized basketball player. Marcquise Reed will represent Georgia in the upcoming matches against Denmark on February 27 and March 2. The need to add a new American player arose after it became clear that Kamar Baldwin would be unable to help the team due to injury.
Marcquise Reed is an experienced 30-year-old basketball player and, figuratively speaking, a true scoring machine. Over the past two seasons, he has not given up the title of top scorer in Turkey’s top league, and in the current season he is once again leading one of Europe’s strongest basketball leagues in points scored.
Reed currently plays for Trabzonspor Basketbol. Last season, he was a member of Tofaş Spor Kulübü, where, in addition to becoming the league’s top scorer, he also won the most prestigious individual award — the MVP of the Turkish League. This season, Reed is once again leading the scoring race.
In the 2025–26 season, he has played 20 matches in the Turkish League, averaging 23.25 points, 5.15 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.55 steals per game. In the previous 2024–25 season, he also became the top scorer of the FIBA Europe Cup while playing for Tofaş.
Trabzonspor Basketbol has won 16 of its 20 games and currently sits in third place in the 16-team league, behind Fenerbahçe Beko and Beşiktaş Emlakjet. Reed is 191 cm tall and can play equally well as both a point guard and a shooting guard. He distributes the ball effectively and is an outstanding scorer, as reflected in his statistics in one of Europe’s strongest leagues — averaging more than 23 points and 5 assists.
Marcquise Reed has already obtained Georgian citizenship through naturalization, and his arrival to the national team depends on Trabzonspor’s results in the cup competition. As you know, most European countries are currently holding cup matches, including Turkey. Trabzonspor will face Türk Telekom Basketbol on February 17. If they lose, Reed will travel to Tbilisi the next day. If they win, they will have another match, and in that case, he is likely to travel directly to Denmark together with Georgia’s other legionnaires.
Reed finished playing for Clemson University in 2019. After going undrafted in the NBA Draft, he began his professional career in Europe. His first team was Chorale Roanne Basket, followed by Prometey Slobozhanske in Ukraine. He then played for French clubs Nanterre 92 and BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque, as well as Italy’s New Basket Brindisi.
Since 2023, Reed has been playing in Turkey, representing Büyükçekmece Basketbol, Tofaş Spor Kulübü, and, from this season, Trabzonspor.
