Basketball club Mgzavrebi is an owner of bronze medals of the Super League. The team trained by Buba Berishvili and Nika Tsintsadze, defeated Rustavi 79:76 in a tense battle and took the third place for the first time in the history of existence. Mgzavrebi do not have a long history anyway – Initially, they were playing with the name of Army-Mgzavrebi. However, they have been separated from the Ministry of Defense for the last 3 seasons and have started its own independent history in the Super League.
The match at Tbilisi Olympic Palace turned out very interesting and tense. Both teams were highly motivated and the fight lasted until the last seconds. Rustavians were leading mainly, after winning the first period – 20:17, they increased the advantage to 7 points for the big break – 47:40. Mgzavrebi were trying to reduce the difference with fast attacks and long range shoots. They were able to get a 4-points lead at the last minute and finally, they gained a very important victory 79:76.
Irakli Alkhanaidze led the winners with 19 points. Adrian Bowie scored 18 points. Taylor Stafford accumulated 14 points. Tyrell Nelson was the most effective with 25 points and 9 rebounds in Rustavi. Adam Blazek scored 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Rezo chachanidze finished the match with 10 points.
