The Regional Basketball Federations’ Development Program (Photo•Video)

The Georgian Basketball National Federation has launched a program to develop and support regional federations. The program covers all regions of our country and it is implemented in cooperation with the FIBA Youth Development Fund. This program was supposed to be held across the country last year, but due to a pandemic, the launch of the program was delayed by one year.

The leadership of the National Federation together with the coaches of the national team and famous representatives of the basketball community will visit the regions of Georgia, where special trainings will be conducted for the young basketball players and also local federations, coaches and players will be provided with appropriate inventory and equipment.

The implementation of the program started from Shida Qartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions. The President of the Georgian Basketball National Federation, Paata Guraspauli visited Khashuri together with the participants of the program, where basketball activities were held throughout the day in the new sports complex.

More precisely, the coaches of the Georgian national team – Milos Gligorijevic and Anatoli Boisa conducted basketball trainings for the young players of Shida Qartli region. Representatives of Gori and Kaspi gathered at the Khashuri sports complex together with local coaches and players. President of Shida Qartli Regional Basketball Federation Tamaz Khachiuri attended the training.

The local federation was given balls and basketball shields for Shida Qartli basketball schools, also special glasses needed to improve dribbling for young basketball players. The coaches were given boards, textbooks and other sports equipment needed for their professional activities. All 130 teenagers participating in the training were given training uniforms and an annual Year Book published by the National Basketball Federation.

Gifts and sports attributes were given to the representatives of Shida Qartli basketball schools by the President of the National Basketball Federation with the members of the organizing group of the program – Managers of the youth national teams and representatives of the coaches’ union. 

Acting Mayor of Khashuri – Zviad Qurdadze and representatives of the Education, Culture and Sports Service of the local municipality attended the training. After the event, local authorities and the guests planted lime seedlings in the yard of the sports complex.

The program soon continued in Samtskhe-Javakheti. The leadership of the National Basketball Federation and the participants of the program visited Akhaltsikhe, where a meeting with the players and coaches of the basketball schools of the region was held in the hall of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University.

Within the framework of the program, the youngsters of Akhaltsikhe and Borjomi were trained by the coaches of the national and youth teams – Milos Gligorijevic and Dimitri Jakobov. President of the National Basketball Federation Paata Guraspauli and member of the Georgian national team Beka Burjanadze talked to the young players about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and sports.

The event was attended by the First Deputy Mayor of Akhaltsikhe Municipality – Guram Melikidze, the head of the Culture Service of the City Hall – Zaza Tamarashvili, the representative of Samtskhe-Javakheti Federation – Giorgi Beroshvili and the director of the sports school – Grigor Tabatadze.

Like Shida Qartli region, local basketball schools in Samtskhe-Javakheti were provided with appropriate equipment and inventory. 80 teenagers took part in the training, who were given training uniforms and balls.

The implementation of the Regional Federations Development Program will continue after the Easter holidays.
