Rustavi Academy Receives Basketball Equipment for Girls' Teams

The program for basketball development in Georgia’s regions, implemented by the National Basketball Federation in cooperation with FIBA, continues its active progress. For four years, the Federation has been supplying regional basketball centers with all necessary equipment through grants from the FIBA Youth Development Fund. Since the end of last year, girls’ programs have been formally integrated into this initiative.

This expansion involves another targeted FIBA program specifically designed to fund projects focused on the development of women’s basketball. By matching the funds received through this program, the Georgian Basketball Federation procures a wide range of gear, including basketballs, backboards, scoreboards, shooting trainers, dribbling goggles, game and practice uniforms, coaching clipboards, whistles, and other essential equipment. These resources are distributed free of charge to all basketball schools and teams operating in the regions.

The women’s basketball development campaign—titled “Her World, Her Rules”—is being actively implemented across Georgia. The GBF Regional Development Department has already delivered specialized equipment for girls’ teams to the Imereti, Samegrelo, and Kakheti regions. Last Saturday, the head of the department, Shalva Oniani, visited Kvemo Kartli to personally deliver various equipment to the girls’ teams of the Rustavi Basketball Academy.

Also present in Rustavi were Kakha Shengelia, Head of the Women’s Basketball Department at the Federation, and his assistant, Lela Tsanava. The academy operates out of Rustavi Public School No. 22, where it trains girls’ teams of various age groups alongside boys’ teams.

The Regional Development Program for both boys’ and girls’ teams will continue its rollout starting in March.
