Georgia will be hosting the last window of the Qualifying Round of EuroBasket 2022, which will be held in Tbilisi Sports Palace according to the so-called “bubble” principle.
This stage is significant for our national team. Upcoming matches, during which a number of young basketball players along with veteran players will defend the dignity of the national team, are a qualifying round for EuroBasket 2022 and the support of Georgian fans, as always, will be a great reinforcer for their success.
Georgia, as one of the host countries of EuroBasket, is guaranteed to compete in the European Championship, and nevertheless, our team is the undisputed leader in Group E of the qualification stage.
According to the “bubble” system, all four national teams – Georgia, Serbia, Finland and Switzerland will gather in Tbilisi, will live in one hotel and will not be allowed to go out. Teams will only move for practices and games and will not have contact with each other except on the playing court directly on the day of the match. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has decided to hold qualifying matches under these regulations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our country, which will host the EuroBasket in 2022 and the European Under-20 Championship in the summer of 2021, has been assigned another responsible mission in terms of organization and will host all the matches of the EuroBasket qualification stage in February according to the “bubble” principle, which will be a great experience ahead of future continental tournaments.
The event is held in accordance with the letter – MES 2 20 0000865628 of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia, in accordance with the regulations of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and those related to the new coronavirus (Covid-19) infection (SARS-COV-2).
