Georgia lost the final round match, but still went to quarterfinals

Georgian U20 team is in the quarterfinals of European Championship. The team trained by Milos Gligorijevic lost the final round match of group phase with Estonia 67:78, but still went to quarterfinals. Georgians had won all 4 matches before and had right to lose with no more than 20 points. Eventually, they lost in permissible limits – by 11 points.

Estonians played with long range shoots that was partially justified and after winning the third period by 8 points, they advanced 55:49. Match continued equally in the final quarter. Georgian team was more mobilized in defense, but Estonians weren’t playing under the reem. 3 minutes before the end, Estonia scored one more three-pointer and advanced by 11 points – 70:59, which was followed by one minute break of Milos Gligorijevic.

Estonians tried their best, but weren’t able to reach desirable leadership. They lacked whole nine points to achieve the goal. Eventually, 3 teams from our group – Netherlands, Georgia and Estonia collected 4 victories and 1 defeat each. Netherlands went to the first place, Georgia took the second, and Estonia took the third. Netherlands and Georgia went to the quarterfinals. Their rivals will be revealed at about 1:00 am, when the final meeting of D group finishes between Portugal and Belgium. These teams are already in quarterfinals, but the winner will take the first place in the group and will play against Georgia in quarterfinals and the loser will play against Netherlands.
