The final route of the Regional Basketball Development Program for 2025 took place in Samegrelo and was dedicated to girls. As you know, the program recently began focusing on the development of girls’ basketball as well, and following a visit to the Imereti region in December, a visit to Samegrelo soon followed.
We would like to remind you that the Basketball Federation has been implementing this program for the fourth year with the support of FIBA’s Youth Development Fund. Within the framework of the program, regional youth basketball schools, academies, or simply teams receive backboards, balls, uniforms, scoreboards, dribbling goggles, shooting training devices, while coaches receive professional boards, whistles, coaching uniforms, and periodically basketball-related literature. When necessary, modern scoreboards are also provided to regional sports halls.
Over the past four years, basketball schools across all regions of Georgia have repeatedly received the equipment they need. Against the backdrop of the program’s successful implementation, the Federation also launched cooperation with FIBA’s girls’ basketball development project (Her World, Her Rules). On December 15, members of the Regional Department visited Chiatura, where they delivered all the necessary equipment to girls’ teams in five cities of the Imereti region (Kutaisi, Khoni, Samtredia, Vani, and Chiatura).
This time, on December 29, the head of the program and the Regional Department, Shalva Oniani, together with the head of the Women’s Basketball Department, Kakha Shengelia, and his assistant, Lela Tsanava, visited Senaki, where teams from Zugdidi and Poti gathered. Due to heavy snowfall, the Adjara (Batumi) team was unable to travel to Senaki, so the equipment intended for them was received by the Senaki representatives and will be handed over to the team later.
The girls received no less equipment than the boys, including balls, uniforms, dribbling-improvement goggles, presentation T-shirts, and coaching boards. For all the listed cities, the Federation delivered shooting training devices to Senaki, which have recently been added to the list of standard equipment. These training devices were manufactured in Turkey by order of the Georgian Basketball Federation.
The program will continue from 2026, and within its framework, regional basketball schools for both boys and girls will receive all the necessary equipment.
