Kutaisi hosted the semi-final of Georgian Cup. 4 teams are fighting for the tournament finals, two of which played today in Kutaisi. The team trained by Kote Tughushi won against Dinamo with 20-points difference – 73:53 and went through the finals.
The difference did not matter. The semi-final round included only one match, where the advantage of the court was distributed according to the results of the second circle of the Super League and the meeting was hosted by the leader of the standings – Kutaisi. Despite the 20-points difference, the match was not uninteresting. After losing the first period 15:26, Dinamo won the second quarter 20:16 and Kutaisi had only 7-points advantage for the big break.
The third period was the most important. If the guests had enough strength to win the game, they should have revealed it in the third period. But they weren’t able to do it and after the third quarter, the difference increased to 11 points.
Kutaisi finally achieved a convincing advantage and went through the cup finals. Jonathan Lee led the winners with 22 points and 8 assists. Akaki Dvalishvili accumulated double-double – 10 points and 12 rebounds. Akaki Lomouri scored 10 points. Lavell Boyd was the most effective with 17 points in Dinamo. Nodar Gogodze scored 10 points and Kiel Turpin had 9 points and 7 rebounds.
The second semi-final of the Cup will be held on March 21, in Rustavi, where the local team will host Cactus. The game will start at 18:30.
