Georgian U20 Team Lost Against North Macedonia

Georgian U20 team was eliminated from playoff contention. Team coached by Milos Gligorijevic lost last game of group phase against Macedonia by 73:76. With 2 wins and 2 losses our team held 3rd place in the group. Teams from 1st and 2nd place, Sweden and North Macedonia, qualified for quarterfinals and will continue fight for “A” division ticket. As for teams eliminated from playoffs, they will continue to play for 9-19 places.

Georgians definitely had chance to win the game. Our team was winning with 14 points, 27:33, in second period, however missed a lot of opportunities and in 3rd quarter was able to tie the score with help of two 3 pointers scored by Vladimer Tavakarashvili. Additionally, one of the leaders of North Macedonia was injured in last period and had to leave the court. Our team was provided with great chance, but could not use it. Macedonians were able to score 1 out of 2 free throws and Georgians had 24 seconds for attack.

Tavakarashvili did not get opportunity to attack and score for 3rd time in a row. Vladimer Salaridze shot 3 pointer but missed it. Macedonians’ rebound was followed by Luka Liklikadze’s unsportsmanlike foul and outcome of the game became clear. Macedonians were able to win in Arena, full of spectators and celebrated qualification for Playoff.

Salaridze and Tavakarashvili with 19 points each, had best result in our team. Luka Liklikadze scored 15 points, Levan Kvartskhava and Nikoloz Gaprindashvili contributed 9 points.

Netherlands is the next opponent of Georgian team. Game will be held on July 22nd in “Olympic Palace”
