The young Georgian coaches left for Istanbul under the FIBA program

Georgian National Basketball Federation sent Nika Burjanadze and Beka Bekaia in Istanbul, Turkey for the event planned within the framework of the FIBA Youth Development Fund. On October 13-16, they will take part in four-day observation tours, which will take place at the bases of Turkey’s leading clubs, attend training sessions, Turkish championship and Euroleague games. All this is done through a special program of FIBA, which serves the development of young coaches.

Nika Burjanadze and Beka Bekaia are young coaches. Nika is 27 years old, but he has many years of coaching experience. He founded the club Wings, which is expanding every year and in recent years has covered all age groups. The teams representing the Wings school coached by Burjanadze were participating in all youth championships starting from the Junior NBA, achieving quite high results. The good results were not lacking for the teams of this school in the international arena as well, where mainly the young teams of Wings participated.

Beka Bekaia is 22 years old and has just started coaching. He is an active basketball player and this year he also played in the final of the Student League as a member of Sportunი. He was a member of the Georgian U-16 team, which won a ticket to Division A at the 2017 FIBA European Championship. Bekaia started coaching in his hometown of Poti, where he continues the path of Honored Coach and renowned basketball player, President of the Samegrelo Basketball Federation, Roland Garuchava. Beka Bekaia has taken over the basketball school headed by Garuchava, which has given a number of excellent players to Georgian basketball and he is now engaged in training children.

Participation in the FIBA Youth Development Fund project and getting acquainted with the working principles and coaching specifics of the leading European clubs – Fenerbahce, Ephesus, Darussafaka, Ulker – will give great experience to young Georgian coaches and help them advance professionally.
