Iverioni Gori started A League Qualifiers with the victory over Astrali

The A League championship is approaching, but before this tournament starts, it is time for the qualification stage. As you are aware, there are 6 places in A league, 5 teams of which are already known – Mgzavrebi, Kavkasia, Orbi, Zestaponi and Guram Tavartkiladze University team. 4 teams are fighting for the remaining 1 place – Iverioni Gori, Gulf, Astrali and Burji Telavi. Kakhetian team played in A League last season and due to the fact that it took the 5th – penultimate place, it has to keep its place in the league.

Telavi has the advantage of participating in the qualification tournament from the second stage. 3 teams are competing in the first stage – Gulf, Iverioni and Astrali, which will meet 2-2 times and the first place-winner team will play against Burji Telavi for the ticket to the A League.

The matches of the 3-team qualification group started today. Iverioni and Astrali faced each other. The match started with a big advantage of Gori and Shida Qartli team had a 20-point lead after the first half. From the third period, Astrali players began to reduce the difference and slowly returned sense to the fight. In the last minutes, Tbilisi reduced the gap to a minimum, but in the end they weren’t able to reach the victory. Eventually, Iverioni Gori won 81:78 (Statistics) and advanced in the standings. 

Gulf will be involved in the qualifiers tomorrow, which will compete with Astrali. The meeting will start at 14:30 at the Olympic Palace.
