The Players Development League ended on August 27 and received positive feedback from its participants. This league was created primarily for the development of players and coaches, to see their potential, to give them an extra arena and from today’s perspective it can be said that the project has paid off (video presentation)
After competing in the Players Development League, Super League clubs have signed contracts with 7 basketball players, and in about 16 cases the interest is serious and is being monitored by the club coaches. We got this information after interviewing the leaders of all 11 teams in the Super League.
We also contacted most of the Coaches in the Players Development League and asked them 2 key questions about the last tournament: what did their participation in the mentioned league bring to them from a professional point of view and what do they want to change in the future, for the improvement of the league…
Davit Rogava (Olimpi): As a coach, this tournament was a great experience and challenge for me. I was in the role of head coach for the first time and I had to look at many things from a different angle. The players helped me in many issues and I was lucky to have such a team. I am sure it was a good experience for all the coaches in the Development League. As for the players, we have signed 3 players from the Development League team and I think this is a pretty good result.
It would be good to bring legionnaires next year and test them in these games. In terms of organization, it is advisable to have at least one week to work with the team after the draft.
Kakha Darakhvelidze (Kutaisi): It turned out a very good tournament. As a coach, I gained a lot of experience. Until now, I led Kutaisi teams in the youth championships, and the Players Development League allowed me to work with professional basketball players as well. I looked at many things from a completely different angle. The new tournament was justified and many thanks to the Georgian Basketball Federation for it. To improve the league in the future, I would like to see more experienced and professional basketball players registered in the league. I think, along with young people, the involvement of experienced players is very important. I also wish that in the future, the lower age limit would be lifted and coaches would be given much more choice.
