The Super League semi-final was opened with an interesting and tense match. The winner of the regular championship – Kutaisi met with Rustavi in the first semi-final. The first match of the series was tense from the first to the last minute. Despite the solid support of fans, Rustavi gained an importand advantage in the decisive moment and defeated the hosts – 81:75.
The hosts won the first period with one point at the last seconds, the 2nd and the 3rd quarters were equal. Accordingly, the hosts have been winning one point before the final period. The reason of the victory of Rustavians became their very productive game in the last period, despite the pressure of Kutaisi fans, they maintained the leadership and celebrated very important victory.
Adam Blazek was the most effective player in Rustavi. He led the winners with 29 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds. Rustavians scored 10 three-pointers. The second very productive player was Tyrell Nelson, who scored 11 out of 11 throws. Finally, he had 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Rezo Chachanidze accumulated 11 points.
Kutaisi lacked the top leader of the team, Jonathan Lee, who was the best player in the cup finals and took a great part in winning the title. The absence of Lee was very noticable and if he does not return to the remaining matches, it will be very difficult for the club. Dejuan Wright was the most effective with 23 points in Kutaisi. Akaki Dvalishvili scored 17 points and 9 rebounds.
The second match of the series will be held at Kutaisi Sports Palace on May 14, at 18:30. Rustavians gained a court advantage with today’s victory. Semi-final series continue until 3 victories. The series will move from Kutaisi to Rustavi on May 17.
