Georgian U-16 team could not beat Hungary in the final

The Georgian U-16 team lacked a little before winning the FIBA European Challenger. Our team coached by Irakli Tomaradze and Nika Tsintsadze lost to Hungary in the final match, which they defeated 61:51 in the group stage. After losing to Georgia, the Hungarians defeated Portugal in the semifinal, and today, in the final match, they faced Georgia and took revenge. The final score is 75:72 (Statistics) – Hungary defeated Georgia in a tense battle.

In the last second of the match, Giorgi Beruashvili missed a three-point shot accompanied by the final siren, otherwise the score would have been equalized and the match would have moved to overtime. Well, the Georgian team should not have taken the case to this doomed shooting. In the final period, Tomaradze’s team was winning 7 points – 56:49, however, the Hungarians played with more mobilization and accuracy in the remaining 9 minutes and came to victory.

The key turned out to be the episode that was played 3 minutes before the final siren, when Hungary was winning 68:66. Our team missed the attack, after which they deserved a technical foul. The Hungarians shot a free-throw and scored a three-pointer in the same attack. Accordingly, they advanced 72:66 and gained an important advantage.

The players of the Georgian team fought until the end in the remaining 2 minutes and were given a chance to save the game, but in the last attack they could not get to the three-point shooting position to equalize the score. The ball behind the line left to us, but it was 0.8 seconds before the end and Beruashvili’s shot was not prepared enough to fall in the basket.

Luka Alavidze, who was named the best player of the tournament and received a special prize, was modest in the final match. He scored 5 points, 2 assists and 1 rebound. The best result was recorded by Luka Lomtadze – 16 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Nikoloz Abuladze scored 15 points, Tengo Gogishvili – 12, and Giorgi Beruashvili – 10 points.
