On July 29th FIBA U18 Championship (“B” Division) took place in Ploiesti. In total, 22 youth teams from different countries are taking part in championship and best 3 will get possibility to compete in Elite “A” Division from next year. Georgia, coached by Davit Rogava and Kakha Tomaradze, won another game of the Championship, defeating Bosnia-Herzegovina by 79:75.
It should be noted that game was very tense and winner was revealed only at final minute of the last quarter. It important to outline that Bulgaria, which defeated Georgians in previous game, lost their match against Netherlands by a score of 70:66. This made it clear, that defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina by any score was beneficial for Georgians. Even though with this victory we are placed in a favorable position to qualify from the group in order to advance to the quarterfinals, Georgia must defeat the Netherlands in the final match of the group stage.
Giorgi Ochkhikidze scored 27 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and became most vulnerable player in our team. 14 points were scored by Giorgi Sulaberidze. Luka Lomtadze and Luka Kuchukhidze scored 10 points each, additionally Kuchukhidze made 9 rebounds. Luka Alavidze contributed 9 points.
Georgian U18 team will have next game tomorrow, August 3rd, against Netherlands.
