After a 73-day forced break, Tornike Shengelia is back on the court. The Captain of Georgian National Team was injured in match against Netherlands and had to miss EuroBasket.
Tornike did not have to overcome surgery and thanks to Italian doctors, he was able to recover his shoulder with therapy. Shengelia was back on the court on November 4th in Euro League game, where “Virtus Bologna” hosted “Vilerban” and lost by 79:84. The game against Vilerban was anniversary for Shengelia, who played his 200th game in Euro League. Head Coach Scariolo, has stated before the game, that he was not going to put too much pressure on newly recovered Tornike. He spent 16:38 minutes on the court, scored 7 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.
Virtus finished the first half with 14 points difference, winning by 50:36. Many thought that outcome of the game was already decided however, opponents were able to score 13 unanswered points in 3rd period and finally won game by 84:79.
With 2 victories out of 6 games Virtus is on 15th place in standings. They will hold next Euro League game against Milan on November 9th, however before they will face “Regina” in Italian Serie A. Georgian Ligonier will leave bologna after the game and join National Team in Iceland, where they will face hosts on November 11th.
