Shalva Gogoladze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia and Paata Guraspauli, President of the Basketball Federation, visited the construction of a new, multi functional sports palace near the university building in Tbilisi.
Notably, despite the Corona virus pandemic, the process of building a multi functional, new sports palace for 10,000 spectators has not stopped. The work is being carried out in full compliance with the strict recommendations and rules developed by the Interagency Coordinating Council and the Ministry of Health.
Construction continues due to pre-arranged dates, according to which the new Sports Palace will be in full readiness in the summer of 2021.
For the first time in history, Georgia is the host country of one of the group stages of the European Basketball Championship. Due to the world-famous events, the European Basketball Championship, as well as the Summer Olympics and the European Football Championship, have been postponed for a year, and Eurobasket 2021 will be held in 2022. It should be noted that even if FIBA held the European Championship in a pre-arranged time, the Tbilisi New Sports Palace would meet the largest basketball forum in full readiness.
As of today, various important works of the initial stage of the arrangement and construction of the foundation have been completed. Relevant information banners are placed on the construction site. All sanitary and safety norms are observed.
