On July 29th FIBA U18 Championship (“B” Division) took place in Ploiesti. In total, 22 youth teams from different countries are taking part in championship and best 3 will get possibility to compete in Elite “A” Division from next year. Georgia, coached by Davit Rogava and Kakha Tomaradze, won its second game of the Championship in a row, defeating Norway 51:71.
It should be noted that the Georgian team was losing in the first and second periods by 11 points. After an successful shot from the Norwegian Amar Piño, the Scandinavians took the lead and were winning by 27:16. Rogava reduced the difference to 5 points before the break. In the third period, Georgians took the lead, advanced by 10 points and maintained advantage for the remaining time.
Giorgi Ochkhikidze scored 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 steals and became most vulnerable player in our team. Giorgi scored 7 out of 8 2 pointers and Scandinavians could not stop him. Vato Gachechiladze collected 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals, as for Luka Kuchukhidze, Luka Alavidze and Sandro Kasaburi, they contributed 8 points each.
Georgian U18 team will have next game tomorrow, July 31th, against Bulgaria.
